Oracle previously announced changes to their support policies for Java SE 8. Why is this important?
Java SE 8 includes several components that are widely used across enterprise environments including laptops, workstations, servers, VMs and in the Cloud. Prior to January 2019 Oracle's version of Java SE 8 could be used for free. Patches, upgrades and security fixes were also made available publicly for free. This is no longer the case and an organization that uses Oracle Java faces some potential new risks around usage and licensing.
